Fabricated from high-quality Mild Steel and invariably coated in Red Oxide paint MS ducts are largely used in kitchen exhaust applications owing to its inherently fire resistant characteristic which can be further enhanced by externally applying a fire-rated fabric bonded both physically and mechanically into the ductwork. MS Duct is normally fabricated from 1 mm up to 3 mm thickness. MS Angles are fitted at all Transverse Joints. Self-flange construction is available as an option.
Firemac FM Ductwork Systems uses a flexible glass fibre fabric, bonded both physically and mechanically onto the duct to give the required fire rating. The fabric material is only 0.4 mm thick and adds virtually nothing to the overall weight of the duct. The fabric is silver grey in appearance, unobtrusive and gives a neat, aesthetically pleasing finish. During the finishing process, the fabric is overprinted with FIREMAC Logo and FIRE RATED Legend to ensure it remains independent of standard ventilation ductwork and service trays. Ductwork is made in the normal manner, broadly following the requirements of DW144 / SMACNA, and there is usually no requirement to upgrade the gauge of steel used to achieve the required fire resistance. Once the duct has been fabricated the fabric is applied quickly and easily and bonded to the duct using a contact adhesive.
